Media Visit to the “Erebuni” Radiotherapy Center

This time, the visitors of the “Erebuni” Radiotherapy Center were media representatives. Recognizing the important role of mass media in covering the healthcare sector, the center organized a special guided tour to introduce journalists to the latest methods of radiotherapy and the center’s capabilities.

With modern technology and cutting-edge equipment, the establishment of this center marks a significant step for Armenia in cancer treatment, positioning the country as a regional leader in radiotherapy. All the treatment methods that previously required patients to travel abroad are now available at the “Erebuni” Radiotherapy Center.

The treatment process involves the latest-generation equipment from leading American and European manufacturers, allowing precise diagnosis and targeted treatment of tumors while minimizing damage to healthy tissues.

During the tour, journalists were introduced to the technologies used in the center, the work of the medical staff, and the center's daily operations. Center Director Kostan Ghalumyan noted that part of the team was invited from abroad, as Armenia currently lacks sufficient specialists trained to fully operate such advanced equipment. However, the team is confident that through knowledge exchange, a strong local team of radiotherapists will soon be formed.

The entire second floor of the center is dedicated to nuclear medicine diagnostics. A specially designed laboratory operates here, where radiopharmaceuticals are prepared for patient injections. The laboratory complies with all international nuclear safety standards: walls and floors are lead-shielded, and the ventilation system is specially designed for the safe handling of radioactive materials.

In addition to meeting all technical standards, the center’s design also prioritizes patient comfort. Unlike many similar facilities that are built underground, the center was constructed above ground — a decision that, although more costly, was made to reduce the psychological stress patients may experience during treatment.

At the end of the tour, journalists received complimentary preventive screening packages from Nairi Medical Center, once again emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis and disease prevention.

Today, it is safe to say that the “Erebuni” Radiotherapy Center not only implements the most effective treatment methods but also provides all the conditions necessary for positioning Armenia as a key destination for medical tourism.
