Radiosurgery
Treatment is conducted according to radiosurgery protocols (SRS). This method may also be referred to as stereotactic radiation therapy (SBRT, SABR). The technique involves applying very high therapeutic doses in a small number of treatment sessions (usually from 1 to 8 sessions). Radiosurgery is used to irradiate small tumor lesions.
Radiosurgery (1-2 foci)
Radiosurgery (3-5 foci)
Radiosurgery (6 foci and more)
Radiation surgery is a highly precise type of external beam radiation therapy used to treat tumors with very high doses of ionizing radiation. It can be an alternative to surgical treatment.
How Radiation Surgery Eliminates Tumors
High doses of radiation damage and destroy tumor cells, halting their growth and division.
Types
Radiation surgery can be performed on various types of radiation therapy equipment, including high-precision medical accelerators and devices like "CyberKnife" and "GammaKnife," depending on the tumor type and location.
What It Treats, Types of Tumors, and When It Is Used
Radiation surgery is effective for treating brain tumors, spinal tumors, liver tumors, and other organs, especially in cases where tumors are located in areas difficult to reach with traditional surgery.
Our Equipment
At the Erebuni Radiotherapy Center, we use the Varian EDGE machine for radiation surgery. Varian EDGE is an advanced high-precision system that allows for safely destroying tumors without surgical intervention.
Procedure steps, stages
Before starting treatment, a primary consultation with a radiotherapist is required. If the decision is made to proceed with radiation surgery, the next step is a CT simulation, which helps determine the radiation volume and create an individualized treatment plan.
Afterward, a radiation session is carried out with the involvement of specialists at the center, including the radiotherapist, to ensure precise targeting of the tumor.
Advantages of the Method
- High precision and minimal impact on healthy tissues.
- No need for incisions or anesthesia.
Limitations
This method is not suitable for large tumors and requires careful planning to avoid damaging healthy tissues.
